Associació Cultural La Tella
The cultural association "La Tella" is a non-profit association that was conceived at the beginning of the first decade of the 20th century. It was born with the interest of developing activities in the town of Sant Mateu and with the aim of occupying people's free time in a creative and constructive way, always protecting the material and intangible heritage of the town. Little by little it took shape and opted for the recovery and dynamization through traditional games and physical-recreational activities linked to the environment as well as the recovery of the intangible culture of the town and the region. The association was institutionalized in 2007 and, currently, continues to work for the common good of the town.
Among its objectives, the study, research and training around games and sports stand out, always promoting citizen social participation, that is, the active practice and recovery of traditional games and leisure life in the streets.
It also tries to recover oral memory and everything that refers to the intangible cultural heritage following the postulates of UNESCO (2003).
Among the main activities it organizes are the Maestrat Games festival on Traditional Games of the Maestrat region, the Conferences "The game and the tradition" and the dòlit tournament (lippa). They also designed three exhibitions related to the traditional game and sport that have an itinerant character.
Although it initially emerged to promote the citizen movement in the town of Sant Mateu, it has also ended up advising and collaborating with museums, associations and town halls of other towns in the region related to intangible culture and traditional games.
