Subregional conference dedicated to Akong
A highly significant subregional conference dedicated to Akong, a traditional game of Equatorial Guinea, will be held on May 31st. The meeting will bring together experts, authorities, and fans to reflect on the cultural significance of Akong and analyze its potential to become a recognized sport in the Central African subregion. The conference seeks to highlight the importance of preserving this ancient practice as part of the cultural heritage, while promoting its inclusion in the regional sports arena.
In parallel, the Equatorial Guinean Akong Association (AEGA) will organize the "June 5" tournament, commemorating the birthday of the President of the Republic, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. The event will bring together the best national players, divided into eight "Mebaha Mekong," each consisting of eleven players. According to the organizers, the winners will receive substantial prizes.
Both initiatives, led by AEGA President Emilio Bokuy, aim to consolidate the Akong as a solid sports institution that fosters cultural identity and strengthens its presence in the national and subregional communities.
We would like to thank Emilio Bokuy, presidente de la Asociacion Ecuatoguineana de Akong, Partner of Traditional Sports, for the photos and information.
