Carrera de Arihueta is practiced by the Tarahumara ethnic group of Chihuahua (Mexico). The race is authentically of Tarahumara origin, the elders say that it is as old as the ball race.
Girls who are of school age practice this sport recreationally and run 4 to 8 kilometers. Adult women, experienced in the race, cover from 30 to 35 kilometers.
